Hello, My name is Meaghan Walls and I’m delighted to introduce myself as the new CEO of the Center for Disability Inclusion. Some of you have gotten to know me over the last two years as the Director for Business Relations for the Nebraska market where I have been working to engage Nebraska area businesses in a commitment to advance disability inclusion in their organizations. I have also supported our business partners across the country with training and consultation needs. In 2021, a mutual disability inclusion advocate connected me to Darla Wilkerson, our just retired CEO, and we started down a journey of working together to grow the reach of CDI and bring my expertise to the partners. I am excited to take on this new role to lead CDI and work with our current and future partners. My Background I want to take this opportunity to introduce myself to the CDI network. My journey with disability started when I was young and my mother co-founded a medically based childcare, through which I got immersed in the myriad of issues families faced when navigating the needs of their child and family. This, combined with my affinity for problem solving, fueled my passion for doing work to remove barriers to participation across settings and across the lifespan. This passion took me on a journey to earn a Master’s degree in Rehab Engineering from the University of Illinois- Chicago where I focused on the applications of assistive technology and universal design to maximize accessibility of many different activities and settings. In addition to my recent time with CDI, I come to this role with more than 17 years of experience in disability related work that includes supporting business operations, working with K-12 schools, collaborating on community space design and applying individual accommodation and assistive technology needs. I spent a number of years with Easterseals MA in a concentrated AT role and have managed a rehab therapy department of an organization where we worked to implement more assistive technology in the classroom settings for greater inclusion of all clients. |
I then started a business focused on working with schools, disability organizations, architecture firms and businesses to apply my expertise and remove barriers through the application of Universal Design and assistive technology. What I Am Excited for This Year I am so excited to lean into my expertise, as well as the robust expertise of the rest of the Leadership team, to continue the work of advancing workplace disability inclusion and to continue to bring the CDI network some fantastic programming and offerings.
Thank you for your partnership and being part of the CDI Network. I look forward to getting to know you as I embark on this journey as the new CEO for the Center for Disability Inclusion. Meaghan Walls, BS, MSBE, ATP (she/her/hers) Chief Executive Officer |
